Wesselmann

Tom Wesselmann

Wesselmann Gallery
Biography

From Cincinnati, Ohio, Wesselmann is considered one of the key figures in Pop Art along with Warhol and Lichtenstein. He was interested in the fascination with blonde bombshell images of women, and referred to the genre as the Great American Nude. The omission of the eyes in this aquatint downplays the overt sexuality of the image, and removes the most identifiably individual personality of the figure which is reduced to a product to be marketed like soap.
